Proposed Changes to Parish Councillor Numbers – Local Consultation

Overview

Somerset Council is carrying out a Community Governance Review to consider proposed changes to the number of parish councillors in four parishes: Ashwick, Chapel Allerton, Martock and West Monkton.

The Review is being undertaken following requests from the parish councils concerned, who have asked the Council to consider whether changes to councillor numbers would support effective local governance and representation.

This is a targeted Review and is limited solely to the number of parish councillors in the four parishes named above. It does not consider parish boundaries, mergers, or the creation or abolition of parishes.

Somerset Council is inviting comments on whether there is support for the proposed changes. Feedback received will help inform the Council’s recommendations, which will be considered as part of the Community Governance Review process.
