Overview

As part of our corporate commitment to keep our streets and public spaces free from litter, we introduced a litter enforcement trial with EH Commercial Services Ltd in April 2022.  The aim of the trial was to create a cleaner, safer environment for communities through public partnerships and ethical enforcement.  This approach followed the best practice identified in the Government’s 2017 Litter Strategy for England.

As part of the trial, educational measures have been employed to change attitudes towards littering, including:

  • Face-to-face interaction
  • Multi-channel communications
  • Engagement with key stakeholders such as Neighbourhood police, the Superintendent of Avon and Somerset police, local businesses in and around town centres, National Highways and Town and Parish councils.

Why your views matter

As the trial has been active for a 12th month of period and we are seeking the views of residents, businesses and visitors to Somerset West and Taunton on whether they feel the trial has had a positive impact in reducing litter across the district, as well as contributing to the improvement of their local environments.
