Hinkley Point B: Proposal to amend off-site emergency planning arrangements
Overview
We are asking for feedback on a proposal to amend detailed off-site emergency planning arrangements for Hinkley Point B.
Hinkley Point B stopped generating electricity in 2022 and is now being decommissioned. In January 2026, the site was declared fuel free. EDF Energy reviewed the site and concluded that radiation levels are now low enough that detailed emergency planning is no longer needed. Somerset Council is reviewing this proposal and wants to understand local views before making any decisions.
We want to hear from:
- People who live near Hinkley Point
- People who work in the area
- People who visit the area
- People in nearby communities who could have been affected by an off-site incident at the former Hinkley Point B nuclear power station
We will be holding community events so you can speak to the team about the proposal. These will be held at Stogursey Village Hall, 32 Tower Hill, Stogursey TA5 1PL as follows:
- Wednesday 17 June, 3pm-7.30pm
- Monday 29 Jun, 3pm-7.30pm
