Mendip Local Plan Part II Limited Update – Regulation 19
Overview
Somerset Council is updating the Mendip Local Plan Part II (Sites and Policies) Local Plan which identifies additional housing sites for development. This follows a Judicial Review of the Plan in 2022. A consultation was held in February 2024 which identified sites that could provide for 505 homes by 2029.
The Council has now published a submission document with more detail on the additional sites with policies. The Submission Plan identifies nine sites, some of which have now been granted planning consent (marked *).
FR10: Land at North Parade Car Park, Frome
GL6: Land off Common Moor Drove, Glastonbury*
GL7: Land at Norbin’s Road, Glastonbury
ST5: Land to rear of Crispin Centre, Street
ST6: Land at Brooks Farm, Street
WL6 Wells Police Station*
MN1: Land at White Post, Midsomer Norton/Westfield*
MN4: Land at Beauchamps Drive, Midsomer Norton, Westfield*
CL2: Land at Anchor Road, Coleford*
The Council is now inviting representations on the Submission Plan until 12 August 2024. Responses made at this stage will be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate and will be considered during the Local Plan examination process. Revisions are not being made to the adopted Mendip Local Plan Parts I and II.
Availability of Publication Documents
You can make representations on the Submission Policies document and the supporting documents which have been used to identify and justify the identified sites. A full list of documents can be found in the consultation notice and can be viewed or downloaded from the Mendip Adopted Local Plans page.
Inspection copies of documents are available at the Shape Mendip offices in Shepton Mallet. Documents can be viewed online from other Council Access Points (CAP) – see the consultation notice for further details and online for locations/opening times.
How can you make representations?
Please use the online response form below to provide your contact details and submit representations. There is a facility for documents to be uploaded. You can also email responses to planningpolicyeast@somerset.gov.uk, or post them to Planning Policy, Council Offices, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5BT.
Following the period for making representations, responses will be made available online and submitted for examination with the plan and supporting documents. The Council will also prepare a consultation report summarising matters and issues for a Planning Inspector. Given the timescales for submission, the council is unlikley to be making changes before submission. Progress on the submission stage will be updated via our Plan-It newsletter.
The deadline for responses is 11.59pm on Monday 12 August 2024.
Why your views matter
The publication stage of a local plan allows for individuals and organisations to respond to the final version of proposals before submission to the Secretary of State (Planning Inspectorate). You should make a response at this stage if you wish changes or objections to be considered, or you wish to participate in examination hearings. Responses will also help shape the matters and issues to be addressed at examination. Responses should focus on the soundness of the Plan and/or legal compliance. Please read our guidance notes on making representations.
