- Strengthened emphasis on brownfield site prioritisation
- Community amenities and activation are now embedded into key sites
- The redevelopment of the bus station at Glovers Walk refers to the provision of high quality public facilities to encourage greater use of public transport.
- We have carefully considered the suggested alternative development sites and have made some changes to the Masterplan to reflect a greater focus on these types of sites.

Overview
Somerset Council is developing a new Town Centre Masterplan for Yeovil.
Our Vision is: By 2040, Yeovil will be defined by its fusion of arts
and high-tech.
- A forward-thinking town centre rooted in its industrial foundation that confidently embraces cutting-edge technology within aeronautical and other emerging engineering sectors with a thriving artistic and creative community.
- A sustainable place that celebrates the outstanding natural environment, green spaces and the country park, seamlessly extending these into the town centre.
- A social and family-friendly place enlivened by its town centre living, public spaces, café culture and evening economy.
- An inclusive place that cares about the health, well-being and education of current and future generations.
- A connected town centre that serves Yeovil and the surrounding villages.
The aim of this masterplan is to:
• Envision the town centre’s role in meeting the needs of the residents. (This means thinking about how the town centre can better serve the people who live there — making it a place that supports everyday life, whether through housing, shops, services, leisure, or community spaces.)
• Facilitate delivery of increased numbers of homes within the town centre on a range of sites. (Make it easier to build more homes in the town centre, using different types of land or locations — not just one big development, but a mix of sites.)
• Create opportunities for activating the town centre. (Find ways to bring life and energy to the town centre — like events, markets, pop-up shops, or cultural activities that attract people and make the area feel vibrant.)
• Define development opportunities that are viable and deliverable (Identify building or improvement projects that are realistic — meaning they can actually be built, funded, and completed successfully.)
We are seeking your comments, suggestions and views on the Yeovil Draft
Masterplan in order to finalise and adopt the masterplan later this year.
