Huish Episcopi and Langport Consultation

Overview

Introduction

Somerset Council is carrying out a Community Governance Review of the parishes of Huish Episcopi and Langport.

Community Governance Reviews are used to make sure that local governance arrangements are effective, reflect local identities, and support the delivery of services. They can consider changes such as creating, merging, or altering parish areas and councils.

This consultation is part of that process. We are seeking your views on a number of options for how the parishes of Huish Episcopi and Langport could be governed in the future.

Why we are consulting

The Council is reviewing current arrangements to consider whether they continue to meet the needs of local communities. This includes looking at whether changes could help to:

  • Simplify local governance
  • Improve the way services are delivered
  • Reflect the close links between the communities of Huish Episcopi and Langport

Your feedback will help us understand the views of residents, organisations, and other interested parties before any decisions are made.

What we are asking

We would like your views on the following proposals and options:

  • Whether the current arrangements should stay the same
  • Whether the existing parishes of Huish Episcopi and Langport should be dissolved and replaced by a single new parish covering the same area
  • If a new parish is created, whether it should have a parish council made up of 11 councillors
  • Whether a new parish council should operate without wards
  • If wards are preferred, how these should be structured
  • If 11 councillors is not supported, what the number of parish councillors should be
  • Whether the existing parish councils should remain but with revised boundaries to create clearer and more logical areas

Why your views matter

We want to hear from everyone with an interest in the future of these communities.

Your feedback will help inform the Council’s final recommendations and ensure that any changes reflect the needs, identities and interests of local people.

All responses will be considered before a final decision is made.
