Somerset Homelessness Strategy Consultation

Closed 23 Sep 2024

Opened 29 Jul 2024

Overview

Homelessness can happen to anyone who finds themselves in a combination of challenging circumstances.

As a new unitary authority formed in April 2023, one of Somerset Council’s first actions has been to review homelessness. This work is being done in association with the Somerset Homelessness Reduction Board, a multi-agency partnership dedicated to preventing homelessness and rough sleeping.

Our housing system is under strain as increasing numbers of people face unmet housing need. The shortage of suitable, affordable housing is one of the many causes of homelessness and rough sleeping. There is a growing imbalance between supply and demand.

As part of our review, we are keen to get views from Somerset residents, people with lived experience, partners and other professionals.  Your feedback is important and will influence our decision making and the development of a new homelessness and rough sleeper strategy and action plan for Somerset.

Claire Tough

Chair of the Somerset Homelessness Reduction Board
