Somerset Local Plan Scoping Consultation 2026
Call for Sites - suggest land for development
Submissions of land and sites for potential future development in Somerset are now being accepted. Please note that this is not part of the Scoping Consultation.
The Council has already carried out a Call for Sites between 13 January 2025 to 24 February 2025. If you submitted a site during this earlier stage, you do not need to resubmit it—it will continue to be considered as part of the Local Plan process.
If you have new sites that have not previously been submitted, you can put these forward now. New sites must be submitted using our online form (this will direct you to a separate website).
More information, including guidance on how to submit a site, is available on our website.
New land and sites submitted will be assessed later in the Local Plan process and will appear in an updated HELAA in due course
Submitting a site does not mean it will be allocated for development. All sites will be assessed as part of the plan-making process.
If you are unsure whether a site has already been submitted, we recommend checking the information available on our website.
What is the Call for Sites
The Call for Sites is part of the process used to identify land that may be suitable for future development in Somerset.
What is a Call for Sites?
A Call for Sites invites anyone to submit land that they believe could be developed for uses such as:
- Housing
- Employment
- Renewable energy
What happens to submitted sites?
All submitted sites will be assessed through the Council’s Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) or other relevant processes.
This assessment considers factors such as:
- Suitability (planning and environmental constraints)
- Availability (whether the site is likely to be developed)
- Achievability (including viability and delivery)
Important points to note
- Submitting a site does not guarantee it will be allocated or granted planning permission
- Sites will be assessed alongside others against the Local Plan strategy and evidence base
- Further consultation will take place before any sites are allocated in the Local Plan
